Summary
This data update:
- presents data from the National Non-admitted Patient Emergency Department Care Database (NNAPEDCD)
- includes measures of use of emergency departments (ED), including use for lower urgency care by age and time (in-hours and after-hours), based on the National Healthcare Agreement (NHA) indicator: PI 19–Selected potentially avoidable GP-type presentations to emergency departments, 2022
- presents results based on where the person lived, not where they received the health care service.
The following measures are included in this release by Remoteness Areas (RA), Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) – Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage (IRSD), Primary Health Network (PHN) area and Statistical Area Level 3 (SA3):
- Number of ED presentations
- Number of ED presentations for lower urgency care
- Number of in-hours ED presentations for lower urgency care
- Number of after-hours ED presentations for lower urgency care
- Rates (crude, age-specific, sex-specific and age-standardised) of ED presentations for lower urgency care per 1,000 population
- In-hours rates (crude, age-specific, sex-specific and age-standardised) of ED presentations for lower urgency care per 1,000 population
- After-hours rates (crude, age-specific, sex-specific and age-standardised) of ED presentations for lower urgency care per 1,000 population
The following additional contextual measures are included by PHN area:
- Number of ED presentations by time of presentation and triage category
- Number of ED presentations where patients arrived by ambulance, by triage category
- Number of ED presentations where patients were subsequently admitted to hospital, by triage category.
