Summary
This data update:
- presents data from the National Hospital Morbidity Database (NHMD)
- includes measures of admitted patient separations (hospitalisations) for potentially preventable hospitalisations, based on the National Healthcare Agreement (NHA) indicator: PI 18–Selected potentially preventable hospitalisations, 2024
- presents results based on where the person lived, not where they received the health care service.
The following measures are included in this release for Potentially preventable hospitalisation (PPH) categories by Remoteness Areas (RA), Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) – Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage (IRSD), Primary Health Network (PHN) area and Statistical Area Level 3 (SA3):
- Rates (crude, age-specific, sex-specific and age-standardised) of hospitalisations per 100,000 population
- Number of hospitalisations
- Number of same-day hospitalisations
- Percentage of same-day hospitalisations
- Number of bed days
- Average length of stay.
The above measures were also included for individual PPH conditions by PHN area.
