Data sources

Data about immunisation coverage are sourced from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). The AIR is a national register, established in 1996, that records vaccines given to people of all ages. Up until 2016, only vaccinations given before the age of 7 years were included.

Data about reported cases of notifiable diseases are sourced from the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS).

Introduction to the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System

Data on hospital admissions and deaths related to vaccine-preventable diseases are sourced from the National Hospital Morbidity Database and the National Mortality Database, respectively.
