Spirits and cider available for consumption

Spirits

The amount of alcohol available for consumption in the form of spirits declined from 2.5 litres per capita in 2022–23 to 2.3 litres per capita in 2023–24.

The types of spirits being made available have also changed over time changed. Ready-to-drink beverages (for example, spirits mixed with soft drinks) accounted for 34% of the alcohol from spirits being made available in 2023–24, up from 32% in 2022–23.

Cider

Cider continues to make up a small portion of the total amount of alcohol made available in Australia. In 2023–24, about 0.25 litres of pure alcohol from cider were made available per capita, a decrease from 0.27 litres in 2022–23, consistent with declines across other beverage types. The 2023–24 level is similar to that recorded of 0.26 litres in 2019–20.
