The Australian Government provided funding in the 2024-25 Federal Budget for the AIHW to develop a national sexual and reproductive health monitoring framework, data strategy and regular reporting. There is currently no national source of data to provide a comprehensive understanding of sexual and reproductive health and care in Australia.
The AIHW prepared a draft sexual and reproductive health monitoring framework and data strategy. The draft was developed following consultation across Australian Government and state and territory government agencies, policymakers, researchers, service planners, service administrators, peak bodies and advocates, health-care providers, people with lived experience, and community/not-for-profit organisations. The draft was available for public consultation from 17 September to 16 November 2025. The draft documents can be found below for reference.
The AIHW will review the feedback received and will release the final framework and strategy in 2026. Targeted consultations will continue as we work to finalise the framework and strategy. The next phase will then focus on data development activities and developing regular reporting.
If you are not already receiving updates from the AIHW about this area of work, please add your contact details to our stakeholder list.
