Australia's health 2016 is the AIHW’s 15th biennial report on the health of Australians. It examines a wide range of contemporary topics in a series of analytical feature articles and short statistical snapshots. The report also summarises the performance of the health system against an agreed set of indicators.

Findings from this report:
  • 85% of Australians aged 15 and over self-rated their health as ‘good’ or better in 2014–15

  • 80.3 years was the life expectancy for a boy born between 2012 and 2014, and 84.4 years for a girl

  • Cancer was the biggest overall killer in 2013 with 44,100 deaths, followed by cardiovascular disease (43,600)

  • 1.1 million Australians had at least 1 of 8 selected chronic diseases in 2014–15
