On behalf of the Indigenous Group at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, I’m very pleased to announce that today we have launched our website, Regional Insights for Indigenous Communities (RIFIC).
This new AIHW website brings together in one place statistics on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities. It provides a statistical picture of Indigenous communities and locations across Australia.
Regional Insights for Indigenous Communities makes available government held data and information from statistical areas, regions, states and territories, and Australia as a whole. It contains information collected by government about the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The website has a special user-friendly search function that enables you to find your community and to access the statistics and information that is most relevant to you. You can search for other places and compare your place with others in Australia.
Once a community or a location has been selected, the website presents statistics in accessible and easy-to-use maps and graphs.
The information on the website can be used by communities to help set priorities and to participate in joint planning with government and service providers.
Congratulations to all those involved in the production and launch of today’s website. This includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities and individuals across Australia who informed AIHW of their need to have access to data that is collected by governments that is relevant to them to help them to plan and make decisions.
This website adds to the AIHW’s existing suite of sub-sites focusing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health and wellbeing, such as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Performance Framework (HPF) - AIHW Indigenous HPF and the Indigenous Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Clearinghouse website.
