Childhood is an important time for healthy development, learning, and establishing the foundations for future wellbeing. Most Australian children are healthy, safe and doing well. However, childhood is also a time of vulnerability and a child’s outcomes can vary depending on where they live and their family’s circumstances. This report brings together a range of data on children’s wellbeing and their experiences at home, school and in the community. It summarises the main findings from Australia’s children.

Amendments

18 Mar 2020 - In Australia’s Children: in brief, the following estimates on page 42 have been updated:

Number of households with children aged 0–14 whose gross household income was at least 50% government pensions and allowances.
The proportion of one-parent families and couple families reliant on government pensions and allowances.

The estimates originally published included all households with dependents, including households with dependent students aged 15–24 that did not have children aged 0–14. This error has been corrected and the revised proportions only include households with children aged 0–14.
