Aged care
Over a period of 2019–20 to 2022–23, a total of $2.6 billion was spent on aged care (Figure 10). The largest components of this spending were for: home and residential care ($704 million), COVID–19 preparedness ($245 million), home support program ($168 million), aged care support ($91 million) and Rapid Antigen testing ($62 million). The Australian National Health Account categorises spending in the aged care sector as welfare spending and as such it is excluded from estimates of health care spending. For this report however, the exception is being made to include COVID–19 related spending that occurred in the aged care setting.
