Building the evidence on primary health care

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) is developing a National Primary Health Care Data Asset to gain a better understanding of the patient’s journey and experiences within the healthcare system, including their reason for an encounter with a clinician, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes. It will also enable the reporting of key primary health care indicators.

This work to collect and enhance primary health care data aligns with outcomes from the Global Conference on Primary Health Care in Astana in October 2018 (see http://www.who.int/primary-health/conference-phc/declaration)

We will be working closely with stakeholders to build the evidence base and contribute to better health and wellbeing for all Australians, while upholding the strictest data quality and privacy standards.
