State and territory burden

For 11 of the 17 individual vaccine preventable diseases (VPD), the annual number of cases allowed for the estimation of the burden by states and territories. The annual number of cases, or the overall burden attributed to the remaining 6 diseases (diphtheria, tetanus, rubella, haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), mumps and polio), was too small to be disaggregated by individual states and territories.

In 2015, the rate of burden due to VPD varied by jurisdiction, ranging between 54 and 134 DALY per 100,000 population. Between 2005 and 2015, the rate of burden due to VPD decreased substantially in most states and territories.
