What is being tracked?

Measure: Proportion of people with disability who have not experienced discrimination due to disability in the last 12 months

This measure is part of the Rights are protected and upheld priority of the Strategy. This priority is about protecting the rights of people with disability, decreasing discrimination, and improving access to supports that help people with disability stand up for themselves and make their own decisions.

The desired outcome is that more people with disability do not experience discrimination.

Has the proportion of people with disability who do not experience discrimination increased over time?

The data in the graph and the table below show the proportion of people with disability (aged 15 and over) who have not experienced discrimination due to disability in the last 12 months. Data from 2015 and 2018 are used. In 2018, 90% of people with disability had not experienced discrimination due to disability, and 91% in 2015.

State and territory

Does the proportion of people with disability who have not experienced discrimination vary between states and territories?

The data in the graph and the table below show the proportion of people with disability (aged 15 and over) who have not experienced discrimination due to disability in the last 12 months, grouped by Australian states and territories. In 2018, 92% of people with disability living in South Australia had not experienced discrimination due to disability, compared with 84% for those in Tasmania.

    The data in the graph and the table below show the proportion of people with disability (aged 15 and over) who have not experienced discrimination due to disability in the last 12 months, by Indigenous status. In 2018, 80% of First Nations people with disability had not experienced discrimination due to disability, compared with 91% of non-Indigenous people.

In 2018, the proportion of people with disability who had not experienced discrimination due to disability was 82% for people with severe or profound disability and 93% for people with other disability status.
