The AIHW has brought together a range of welfare topics in one report, presenting emerging and topical issues highlighting recent trends and data gaps, in the 14th biennial Australia’s Welfare publication.
On 11th September, Senator the Hon. Anne Ruston, Minister for Families and Social Services, launched the AIHW’s publication Australia’s Welfare 2019 at Parliament House, Canberra. The launch also included a speech made by Louise Markus, Chair of the AIHW Board.
Australia’s Welfare 2019 introduced a new multi-format report consisting of:
This new format aims to reduce large print publications and present information in diverse, layered and accessible formats. An animation summarising the findings was also produced, highlighting how Australians are faring in key welfare areas.
Overall, the findings showed the highest annual employment rate recorded and an increase in students obtaining a Year 12 certificate. However, the report also found Australians are experiencing increasing difficulty in finding affordable housing and 1 in 4 Australians are currently experiencing an episode of loneliness.
