Deaths and disease burden
The following pages present statistics and information on:
It is vital for health-care professionals and policymakers to understand how many people are dying from dementia in Australia, and how this may vary for different subgroups of the population. This information enables better policy and service planning for the current and future impact of dementia on the health of Australians and Australia’s health-care, aged care and social systems.
In this report, burden of disease analysis measures the impact of dementia on the Australian population. The dementia burden due to risk factors estimates how much of the dementia burden could be reduced if modifiable risk factors could be avoided. These can provide potential targets for action to reduce the burden of dementia.
Refer to the Data tables for the underlying data presented in these pages.
