Statistical Area Level 3 of mother’s usual residence

Where mothers live can impact their access to services. Statistical Areas are a geographical classification defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. They encompass four levels with increasing size and population, with Statistical Areas Level 3 (SA3s) designed for data at the regional level.

The interactive data visualisation (Figure 3) presents statistics on all 13 National Core Maternal Indicators by the Statistical Area Level 3 of the mother’s usual residence for rolling 3-year periods, from 2017–2019 to 2021–2023. Use the drop-down menus to select a SA3 and explore different categories of indicators.
