The National Mental Health Service Planning Framework (NMHSPF) provides a comprehensive model of the mental health care requirements to meet Australia’s population needs. The NMHSPF is an evidence-based framework, designed to support co-ordinated planning across the Australia’s mental health system. It provides a common language and consistent goals to help plan, coordinate and resource mental health services, with the aim to improve access to mental health services for everyone. The NMHSPF Planning Support Tool (NMHSPF-PST) complements the framework by allowing users to estimate need and expected demand for mental health services for a specific population.
The NMHSPF builds on state and territory expertise in population-based mental health service planning and has collated expert advice from across the sector.
Watch the video below for an overview of the NMHSPF model, including what it is and how it works.
