This web report supplements the Alcohol and other drug treatment services in Australia 2016–17 report by presenting key state and territory findings on clients, closed treatment episodes, and treatment agencies in 2016–17.
Nearly all (97%) clients in New South Wales in 2016–17 were receiving treatment for their own drug use, and most were male (66%) (Figure 1; Table SC NSW.1). The reverse was true for clients receiving treatment or support for someone else’s drug use (68% were female). Over half (54%) of clients were aged 20–39 years (Table SC NSW.2). Almost 1 in 6 clients were Indigenous Australians (16%) (Table SC NSW.3). This is consistent with the national picture (15%) (Table SC.4).
