Geography
Injury hospitalisations and external causes of injury vary by location.
The dashboard below presents injury hospitalisation rates across Australia at two sub-national geographic levels: States and Territories, and Statistical Areas 3 (SA3).
At the SA3 geographic level, age-standardised rates (ASRs) are calculated by aggregating data across 3 years so that information for smaller regions can be reliably displayed (see the Notes tab for details).
The dashboard allows you to select specific external causes of injury, and offers two metrics for display:
- The most recent ASR values (2023–24 at the State and Territory level, 2021–22 to 2023–24 at the SA3 level)
- The relative change in ASR in 2023–24 compared to an average of the previous 5 financial years
This interactive visualisation present age-standardised rates of injury hospitalisations by external cause of injury at the State and Territory level, and at the SA3 level.
For technical details about the data, see the technical notes.
Geographic influences are also reflected in the remoteness data sections discussed in the next page.
