What is being tracked?

Measure: Proportion of NDIS participants who get the support they need to do their job

This measure is part of the Economic participation priority of the Strategy. This priority is about supporting people with disability to find and keep jobs.

The desired outcome is that more people with disability are supported to keep a job.

This measure will be replaced during the life of the Strategy once available data allow the following to be tracked – proportion of NDIS participants with an employment goal in receipt of employment income in last 12 months.

Has the proportion of NDIS participants who get the support they need to do their job increased over time?

The data in the graph and the table below show the proportion of NDIS participants (aged 15–64) who get the support they need to do their job. Data from 2018–19 Q2 to 2023–24 Q2 are used. In 2023–24 Q2, 62% of NDIS participants reported they get the support they need to do their job, compared with 78% in 2018–19 Q2.

Does the proportion of NDIS participants who get the support they need to do their job vary between states and territories?

The data in the graph and the table below show the proportion of NDIS participants (aged 15–64) who get the support they need to do their job, grouped by Australian states and territories. In 2023–24 Q2, 66% of NDIS participants in South Australia reported they get the support they need to do their job, compared with 57% in both Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory.

In 2023–24 Q2, 57% of First Nations NDIS participants reported they get the support they need to do their job, compared with 61% of non-Indigenous participants.

In 2023–24 Q2, in both regional areas with populations between 15,000 and 50,000 and regional areas with populations between 5,000 and 15,000, 65% of NDIS participants reported they get the support they need to do their job, compared with 55% in remote and very remote areas.

    The data in the graph and the table below show the proportion of NDIS participants (aged 15–64) who get the support they need to do their job, by disability group. In 2023–24 Q2, 87% of NDIS participants with Down syndrome reported they get the support they need to do their job, compared with 46% of participants with stroke (please note that some categories were not published due to small numbers and to protect confidentiality).
