The dashboard presents incidence, prevalence and deaths data for all diabetes, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Accompanying notes and data sources for the statistics presented are shown below.

Notes

  1. Population groups and trends data are age-standardised to the 2001 Australian Standard Population.
  2. Excludes persons where remoteness area and/or socioeconomic area was missing and persons whose Indigenous status was not stated or inadequately described.
  3. Remoteness is classified according to the Australian Statistical Geography Standard 2016 Remoteness Areas structure based on postcode of current residence. For all diabetes prevalence (excluding trends) and deaths, Remoteness is based on the Australian Statistical Geography Standard 2021 Remoteness Areas structure based on usual residence.
  4. Socioeconomic areas are classified according to population-based quintiles using the Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage (IRSD) based on Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) of current residence. For all diabetes prevalence (excluding trends), Socioeconomic areas are based on Statistical Area Level 1 (SA1) of current residence.
  5. Prevalence and incidence rates may be influenced by the lower capture of First Nations people and those living in Remote and very remote areas or across states and territories with large remote communities on the National Diabetes Services Scheme.
