Chronic kidney disease dashboard
The chronic kidney disease dashboard allows you to view statistics about people who reported having kidney disease, people affected by end stage kidney disease and undergoing dialysis treatment.
Step 1: Select a dashboard page from the buttons at the top (for example, overview, regional comparison).
Step 2: Select a topic to view statistics on (self-reported kidney disease, chronic kidney disease, dialysis treatment).
Step 3: Select filter options to change statistics presented (urban area, statistic).
Data for this dashboard are from the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census of Population and Housing (Census) for 2021, and the Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry (ANZDATA) for 2022.
Census data are for the people who reported they had kidney disease as a long-term condition; this information is self-reported.
ANZDATA data for people affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD) count the number of individuals with kidney failure who were receiving kidney replacement therapy, including those receiving dialysis or a kidney transplant. Each person is counted once per condition or treatment type. Therefore, the numbers presented reflect unique patients rather than multiple episodes of care.
ANZDATA rates are presented per 100,000 population. Crude rates have been made available for First Nations people only, to avoid direct comparisons. For comparisons between First Nations and non-Indigenous populations where age-specific rates are not available, refer to age-standardised rates.
The chronic kidney disease dashboard presents data for urban areas (based on Greater Capital City Statistical Areas (GCCSA)) and their contributing Statistical Area Level 4 (SA4) and Statistical Area Level 3 (SA3) regions. ANZDATA is available for GCCSA regions. National and state and territory data are also presented.
