Data updates
Australia’s mothers and babies is updated several times a year, in:
- June 2026 – detailed data tables for 2023 data (the latest available) from the National Perinatal Mortality Data Collection (NPMDC) were released. The tables include data on perinatal deaths for two focus groups: First Nations women and their babies, and near-term normally formed singleton babies.
- February 2026 – the ‘Stillbirths and neonatal deaths dashboard’, and accompanying data tables, were released with the first release of 2023 data from the National Perinatal Mortality Data Collection (NPMDC).
- November 2025 – the ‘Maternal deaths’ content was updated with the latest available data (2023) from the National Maternal Mortality Data Collection (NMMDC).
- July 2025 – most of the report was updated with the latest available data (2023) from the National Perinatal Data Collection (NPDC) and the Maternity Models of Care Data Set (MoC DS), including preliminary perinatal deaths (stillbirths and neonatal deaths) data and two new sections on maternity models of care and country of birth.
