Notes
  1. The source data was designed to be collected and presented separately by type of assault and sex of perpetrator:
    • most recent incident of physical assault by a male
    • most recent incident of physical assault by a female
    • most recent incident of sexual assault by a male
    • most recent incident of sexual assault by a female.
Due to data quality concerns, these webpages only report data for:
    • people who experienced physical assault by a male
    • women who experienced sexual assault by a male.
  2. To assess whether the rate has changed over time, the data reference periods need to be mutually exclusive (that is, not span over the same years). Therefore, these webpages use different definitions of recent assault for summary/trend reporting (assault experienced in the last 3 years), and for population groups reporting (assault experienced in the last 10 years).
  3. Disability status is collected as at the time of survey, and may differ from the time that assault occurred.
