Measure 4.3. Increased number of First Nations people seen and supported through memory clinics, including through clinics embedded in ACCHOs and ACCOs

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) people in Australia experience a higher burden of dementia, but also additional challenges in accessing appropriate health and aged care services that can support them to live well with dementia. A key step in improving the outcomes of First Nations people living with dementia is ensuring they have access to culturally safe, accessible diagnostic services. One of the goals of the Action Plan is to improve diagnostic and post-diagnostic supports, including by:

  • ensuring that First Nations people can access culturally safe specialist diagnostic services, also known as memory clinics
  • embedding memory clinics in Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Organisations (ACCHOs) and Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisations (ACCOs).
