Measure 6.5 Increased support available for carers and family members of people living with younger onset dementia

Younger onset dementia refers to dementia that occurs before the age of 65. The needs and care requirements of people with younger onset dementia, their families and informal carers are often different from those of older people. A diagnosis may occur at an age when the demands of family and work are at a peak, placing a severe strain on family and carer dynamics and finances. It is therefore important to measure change in the supports available to carers and families of people living with younger onset dementia to ensure services are available and those services are tailored to the specific needs and life stages of this group.
