Measure 5.7: Improved aged care experiences and outcomes for people living with dementia

Aged care services offer a variety of care in different settings to older people. Home support and home care services provide care for people living in the community, while residential aged care services provide care and accommodation in residential facilities, both for permanent and short-term respite stays. The Action Plan identifies the delivery of aged care services that meet the needs of people living with dementia as a key priority.

Data on the use of aged care services and aged care assessments by people living with dementia are reported and updated annually in the AIHW’s Dementia in Australia. However, data development is needed for this measure of progress as there are no national data currently available to track experiences and outcomes for people living with dementia in aged care settings. For example, data on quality in aged care are not available specifically for people living with dementia.
