Measure 5.10: Increase in culturally appropriate advance care planning and palliative care for people living with dementia from First Nations, CALD and other diverse communities
Early advance care planning where future health-related care preferences are reflected upon, discussed, and documented, is important for people living with dementia.
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety (2021) recommended culturally appropriate advance care directive processes, guidance material and training for aged care providers that account for people’s diverse cultural practices and traditions. Culturally appropriate advance care planning needs to be considered for people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities living with dementia.
There are no data currently available to track this measure of progress and data development is needed. For further information about data limitations for these priority groups see Better dementia data on high priority groups.
