Overview and what is being tracked
The National Dementia Action Plan 2024–2034 (the Action Plan) is Australia’s national dementia policy framework. It includes 8 actions that highlight improvements that people living with dementia, their carers and families have said are needed.
See the National Dementia Action Plan website for more information on:
- how the Action Plan was developed
- the 8 action areas
- how the Action Plan will be implemented
- the Action Plan’s Monitoring and Reporting Framework.
Within each action are broad statements that outline how we will determine whether the Action Plan is meeting its objective to improve the lives of people with dementia and their families and carers. These are called measures of progress and were chosen by the Australian government and State and Territory governments following public consultation on the Action Plan.
This web report presents specific metrics, called indicators, to track change over time, under each of the measures of progress. Data development is needed to track some measures of progress where there are limited or no indicators available.
An initial report with baseline data for 50 indicators was published in December 2024. This report includes updated baseline data for 41 indicators, and data for 3 new indicators. Historical trends are included to provide context. In future years, data will be updated and assessed to determine if indicators are improving over time, and the Summary of all indicators page will take the shape of a monitoring dashboard.
