Background

The National Miscarriage Expert Advisory Group (NMEAG) provides clinical and technical expert advice regarding data needs, sources, gaps and opportunities, and definitions related to miscarriage for the purposes of national data collection.

Terms of reference

The NMEAG is required to:

  • Provide service planning, clinical and technical advice regarding scope of data and definitions.
  • Provide advice on the development of a national framework for miscarriage data collection and reporting.
  • Provide advice regarding data sources, gaps, and feasibility of data collection and reporting options.
  • Provide advice regarding current and emerging issues related to the information needs, potential uses, and requirements for miscarriage data from diverse perspectives.
  • Provide advice regarding stakeholder engagement activities, including identification of key stakeholders.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and contribute to out-of-session papers and correspondence as necessary.
  • Provide timely feedback on the content and structure of working documents and draft reports.
  • Participate in reciprocal information sharing. Members are encouraged to present findings, share insights and further engage in discussions focused on monitoring miscarriage data issues and emerging priorities.
  • Support data development activities, as appropriate.

Membership

The NMEAG comprises of:

  • Health professionals with expertise in miscarriage care
  • Academics with expertise in miscarriage research
  • Representatives of relevant government agencies and services with expertise/ experience in miscarriage or related data collection, or understanding of national, jurisdictional and/or service-level data needs or policy.
  • Representatives of key non-government organisations, including leading consumer/lived-experiences groups and advocacy and support organisations

Other observers, presenters and temporary members may be invited on a transitory basis as their expertise is required.
