This page presents integrated regional profiles of mental health service activity. The data exploration tool allows users to explore trends in service use within Primary Health Network (PHN) and Statistical Area 3 (SA3) geographical regions over time for a range of services across Australia’s mental health system.
This release presents Admitted Patient Care hospitalisations, Emergency Department presentations, Community Mental Health Care service contacts, Medicare patient, services and PBS patients and prescriptions data as crude rates (per 10,000 population) by region, age group and financial year to 2023–24. It also shows MBS benefit paid per capita, fee charged per capita, as well as PBS benefit subsidised per capita by region, age group, provider type and financial year to 2023–24.

Please consult the Technical notes pages within the regional profiles data exploration tool for information on the interpretation and use of the data. Due to the detailed nature of geographic and demographic information in this product, some data are not published (n.p.), or have had rounding applied, for both confidentiality and reliability purposes. As such, the regional profiles should be used for analysis of trends as it does not necessarily represent actual activity.
Further information and analysis for each topic area presented in the regional profiles is available from the Mental Health Online Report.
