Performance of the screening program
BreastScreen Australia has been monitored since 1996–1997 using national performance indicators, which are key measures of the progress BreastScreen Australia is making towards reducing morbidity and mortality from breast cancer.
The Population Based Screening Framework (Standing Committee on Screening 2018) uses 5 incremental stages to describe a population screening pathway (recruitment, screening, assessment, diagnosis and outcomes). The performance indicator data in this monitoring report have been applied to these stages, and this figure shows how the indicators relate to the framework for data presented in this report.
