Cancer incidence by country of birth

Cancer incidence by country and region of birth

This page includes the Cancer incidence by country and region of birth data visualisation. A written report about cancer incidence by country and region of birth accompanied the first release of this data in 2024. The below data visualisation includes the most recent data, while the report relates to data released in 2024 (the supporting data for the report remains in the Data section of this report).

Cancer incidence rates vary considerably across the world. The below data visualisation provides cancer incidence rates and counts for the leading 20 cancers diagnosed for selected countries and regions of birth for the reporting periods of 2007–2011, 2012–2016, 2017–2021 and 2007–2021. Rates are standardised to the 2001 Australian Standard Population and the World Health Organisation World Population. Please note that the Australian standard population and world population structures are different, and the respective age-standardised rates are not comparable.

Raw counts and rates are available, as are imputed rates. Imputation has been undertaken due to the relatively high proportion of records where the country of birth was not stated (that is, there was no response to the country of birth question). The rate of not stated records varies by cancer and reporting period and is available with a range of other information when hovering the mouse cursor over the rate of the selected cancer. Data quality concerns should be considered when using this data and are discussed within the Cancer incidence by country and region of birth report.
