Causes of injury
Cause articles will be updated periodically throughout the year.
Injuries can be classified by cause once hospital staff or coroners discover how the person was injured. In some cases, they are not sure if it was accidental or deliberate, in which case the record will show undetermined intent.
The following articles each focus on a major cause of injury resulting in hospitalisation or death in Australia. See Ranked causes for an overview of injury hospitalisations and deaths by cause. ED presentations are not reported by cause due to the quality of the currently recorded information. Please refer to the technical notes for further details.
