Illicit drug use

The following data visualisation shows recent (past 12 months) illicit use of drugs by age group and drug type (percent), 2001 to 2019, nationally and in each state and territory.

This figure shows that in 2019, there was an increase in the proportion of Australians aged 14 and over who reported using cannabis (11.6% in 2019), cocaine (4.2%), or ecstasy (3.0%) in the last 12 months. Use of meth/amphetamines has declined over time (1.3% in 2019).
