The following data visualisation shows tobacco smoking status by age group (percent), 2001 to 2019, nationally and in each state and territory.

This figure shows that in 2019, 63% of Australians aged 14 and over never smoked, 23% were ex-smokers, 11.0% smoked daily, and 3.0% smoked occasionally. The proportion of Australians who smoke daily declined from 2016 (12.2%) to 2019 (11.0%).
