The General Treatment Dental (GT-Dental) data collection is a collection of dental service records for which private health insurers have paid benefits. The data are supplied to the Department of Health and Aged Care by private health insurers. The collection contains de-identified unit record level data with information related to patient demographics (derived age, sex, postcode), procedure type, number of dental service items, charges, and benefits paid.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) receives a subset of the data provided by dental service providers to private health insurers, then from private health insurers to the Department of Health and Aged Care.

GT-Dental data specification - Insurer to department - 2022–23 

Data received for 2010–11 to 2020–21 included data for 21 Australian Dental Association (ADA) general dental treatment codes for dental services for which private health insurers have paid benefits. Future years will include additional ADA treatment codes.
