This is the thirteenth in a series of surveys auspices by the National Drug Strategy (and its predecessors) and the 8th to be conducted by the AIHW. It is a national household survey of non-institutionalised persons aged 14 years and over. There were 22,272 completed responses in 2019. Fieldwork was conducted by Roy Morgan Research.

Data scope

Private dwellings from people aged 14 years or older.

Excluded from sampling were non-private dwellings (hotels, motels, boarding houses, etc.) and institutional settings (hospitals, nursing homes, other clinical settings such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres, prisons, military establishments and university halls of residence). Homeless persons were also excluded as well as the territories of Jervis Bay, Christmas Island and Cocos Island.
