This is the seventh in a series of surveys auspiced by the National Drug Strategy (and its predecessors),  the second conducted by the AIHW, and the first to be conducted fully as an AIHW function. It is a national household survey of non-institutionalised persons aged 14 years over. There were 26,744 completed responses in 2001. Fieldwork was conducted by Roy Morgan Research.
